Personal Situation
Your candidate should understand and live out true stewardship in all areas of their life. They should be transparent about their struggles and successes and have a plan for reaching their stewardship goals. This person should be eager to share their knowledge with others and passionate about discipling people towards more generous lives.
Leadership Qualities
Your candidate should understand and have a desire to form a team of volunteers to help them reach all givers. They should be able to train and guide their volunteers to connect with and grow the ministry. Remember, your stewardship ministry is more than just fundraising or benevolence and should never be just about these two things. You need someone who knows the difference between stewardship, fundraising, and benevolence. They should want to truly ‘faithraise’ your congregation.
Biblical Knowledge
Your candidate should have a vast knowledge of the scriptures and how they pertain to stewardship, generosity and growth in Christ. They should use scripture to mentor, disciple, and lead people deeper in their spiritual walks. Scripture should be the first place your candidate goes to when deciding how they should create and build the ministry to glorify God.
Once you’ve put together the job description it’s time to prayerfully consider the candidates. Remember to look internally first. Is there anyone on your staff that could switch roles and serve as the Stewardship Pastor? Or, is there someone in your congregation that faithfully volunteers that you should consider?
